15 Of 2014’s Most Unforgettable Music Videos
2014 has been one hell of a year for music videos. They’ve got more and more raunchy and extravagant as time goes on (not looking at anyone in particular, Ms. Minaj!) So, with us almost nearing the end of 2014, we decided to round up some of the most unforgettable music videos of the past year and count down the numbers from 15 to 1. Let us know if you agree with us!
15. 5 Seconds Of Summer – Don’t Stop
Ok, so this not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the 5SOS fans LOVED IT because they got to see their fave guys dress up as superheroes. Being their second single, this was the track that proved that the Aussie four piece had what it takes to take the pop punk world by storm, without just being a one hit wonder. It’s very silly, but still fun and that’s exactly what the music industry needs from time to time, right?
14. Selena Gomez – The Heart Wants What It Wants
We put this vid in our top 15 because it FINALLY answered the countless rumours about Selena and her on/off beau Justin Bieber that have been hitting the headlines for years, literally. The video shows Sel sobbing as she sings about a romance that left her in pieces, with her friends constantly telling her to dump him, but she didn’t listen. Sound familiar, anyone?
13. Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Jessie J – Bang Bang
Three of pop’s biggest divas got together for this corker of a pop track and with the video being full of Girl Power, we just HAD to include it in our top 15. Ariana, Jessie and Nicki all get their separate moments to shine, before they join forces at the end – obviously all being VERY sassy and showing off those hot bods of theirs.
12. Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne, Tyga – Loyal
If you were to forget the constant drama surrounding Chris Brown and focus on the music for a second – this track has definitely been one of 2014’s most memorable, hasn’t it? Brown is his usual cocky self surrounded by females in the vid, showing off those impressive dance moves of his throughout. But, that’s what he does best!
11. Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
We obviously had to include at least one Ed Sheeran video in the list, because we just LOVEE him, and which better one to pick than the one where he showed off some of his incredibly rare dance moves? Despite us being used to seeing Mr. Sheeran stood on stage with a guitar and moving around to say hello to the crowd every now and again, this one proves that he can definitely consider a career in ballroom dancing if all else fails!
10. Sia – Chandelier
This song and video may have been posted months ago, but it’s still one of the most played songs on the radio and we literally can’t go a day without getting it stuck in our heads at least once. And with the video being directed by Sia and featuring some pretty impressive dance moves, it’s in at a very respectable number ten on our list.
9. Taylor Swift – Blank Space
This video has already racked up almost 140 million views on YouTube, despite only being posted last month. With Taylor being known to be very imaginative with all of her music videos, she literally put everything into this one, which shows her having multiple personalities, as she tells the tale of a failed romance with a guy who lives in a very posh house. Wonder which one of her exes she’s talking about hmmm? We have an idea.
8. One Direction – Steal My Girl
1D fans waited for aaages for this video and as per usual, the guys teased them for weeks – it was definitely worth the wait! 1D are literally the biggest band on the planet right now and their music videos reflect this, with this one including an appearance from the legendary Danny DeVito and lots of very random characters including a chimp, sumo wrestlers and some ballet dancers. Standard. But anyway, it’s in at number 8.
7. Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX – Fancy
Despite this vid being released all the way back in March, we still spend approximately half of our day trying to stop singing the words “who dat, who dat”. And, we reckon we’re not the only ones, hence why Iggy’s at #7 with Fancy! And obviously this isn’t just about the song itself – but Iggy never disappoints in terms of her videos and this one is basically a modern version of Clueless. With a bit more partying and raunchy dance moves, obvs.
6. Ariana Grande – Break Free
Here’s Ariana again – although Problem was no doubt Ariana’s biggest track of 2014, this is definitely the best video out of the two. In a four minute clip that basically gives Star Trek a run for its money, Ariana turns into one hot superhero that shoots fire out of her boobs.
5. Katy Perry – Dark Horse
Katy Perry is known for her extravagant videos, but she may have taken this one a bit too far when over 40k people ended up signing a petition to ban a shot of her burning an ‘Allah’ penchant. Eek. Despite the controversy, this is still one of the biggest videos of 2014!
4. Jennifer Lopez & Iggy Azalea – Booty
This vid is definitely one of the most memorable ones of the past year, arguably not all for the right reasons. However, with the pair oiling one another up, gyrating and constantly shaking their bootys, this has bagged them the number four spot on our poll.
3. Maroon 5 – Animals
Maybe an unlikely entry for some – we’ve picked Maroon 5 and their bizarre video for Animals for our number three spot. The whole thing is just extremely gross and odd, with it including Adam Levine’s girlfriend Behati Prinsloo, who the singer is so obsessed with in the vid that he ends up stalking her, before they end up being showered in blood, whilst naked. Definitely not your usual vid! Especially seeing as they’re married in real life.
2. Nicki Minaj – Anaconda
Ohhh the video that has had EVERYBODY talking for months now – Nicki is obviously famous for that huge booty of hers and she definitely managed to show it off A LOT in this vid. There’s a helluva lot of butt shaking, intense twerking, whipped cream and erm…spanking. Lovely. What else do you expect from a Nicki Minaj video?
1. Taylor Swift – Shake It Off
Ok, we know that Taylor has already featured once in the list but we just can’t have a video poll without putting the song that has basically taken the music industry by storm over the past couple of months alone. This year has pretty much been allll about T- Swiz and this comeback video for Shake It Off was definitely one of the best that she’s ever released – she dresses up as everything from a cheerleader to a ballet dancer. Which is your fave look?
