Taking a hold of a new dimension in music you can tell Goulding has taken risks and developed a sound of her own that is unique and distinctive with the release of her new album Halcyon.

Fusing gentle tones together with a stomping beat, however the juxtaposition doesn’t result in a clash but it’s nothing short of a story telling album through love and heartbreak. Overrated some may say but it’s something everyone can relate too and that’s why it works for Goulding because that emotion she repels is attracted by new and old fans of hers, moving anyone that hears it.

Second track ‘My Blood’ has a daunting sound that steers away from the pop anthem kind. Single Anything Could Happen is a great example of modern pop however. Album title track 'Halcyon 'is a stand out song with lyrics ‘You show me what it feels like to be lonely/you show me what it feels like to be alone’ a sense of vulnerability but the serious power behind her voice makes it incredibly engaging.

The songs are more a journal than an album; she sings like she’s drawing the curtains on her life and her experiences and tracks like ‘Figure 8’, ‘JOY’ and ‘Explosions’ make that crystal clear. Goulding’s melody sounds really superior against the keys of the piano in ‘I Know You Care’ and ‘Atlantis’ but she keeps to her fragile form and only the most talented of artist would nail this, we knew Goulding was capable of big things but this was a great shock even to us.

The world is to remain impressed and she can scrap the ‘Starry eyed star’ status because this album will see her in the long run. Anyone listening would think this was produced by a supremely experienced musician but for Ellie this is only her second time with a full length album, she sets the bar high.

‘In My City’ is built around her emphasised vocals framed by guitar chords that match Goulding’s melody perfectly. ‘Without Your Love’ and ‘Anything Could Happen (Blood Diamonds Remix)’ tie up the album as an extraordinary effort by Goulding.
