Legendary star Jerry Lewis was rushed to hospital just before he was due on stage to give Tom Cruise a prestigious Friars Club award on Tuesday (June 8.).
Lewis who appeared in classic films such as 'The Nutty Professor' and 'The King Of Comedy', collapsed with low blood-sugar levels just before taking the stage in front of a huge crowd of stars at the Waldorf Astoria on Tuesday night.
Lewis, who is 86, was due to receive an Applause Award, and to present 'Rock of Ages' star Tom Cruise with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award.
Jerry Lewis is one of the most popular entertainers in Hollywood history, enjoying a double act with singer and member of the rat pack Dean Martin.
According to The New York Post, Chairman of the Friars Foundation Ambassador Joseph Zappala informed attendees that Lewis had been taken ill just before the event and had been taken to hospital, but should recover.
