Marcus Collins has told Entertainmentwise about how much Gary Barlow has shaped his career.
In particular he says that it was Gary’s Northern roots that inspired him the most! As well as being Marcus’ mentor on the X Factor, the Take That star has continued to work with his since the show started, and is the executive producer on his debut album. And Marcus is quick to sing Gary’s praises.
“He’s got a very strong Northern work ethic, so he’s the same as me, he’ll stay there until it’s perfect,” he told us. “Working with Gary has helped me immensely as he’s such an accomplished song writer and performer.”
“I think the thing that he’s given me more than anything else is confidence. He’s taught me to be proud of who I am and what I do, and to just get on with it and enjoy it.”
Marcus went on to explain that he was careful not to be two overbearing whilst recording the album.
“He was sometimes in the studio, and sometimes in the office,” he continued. “He didn’t want you to feel like he was there, standing on your shoulder, he wanted to give you some air, so that I could breathe and do what I needed to do. He’d then come in and tweak anything that needed potentially tweaking.”
He also admitted that he really wanted Gary over all the judges to be his mentor on the show.
“I was really hoping to get Gary to be honest. And we got him I was so happy, I couldn’t believe it. He’s an incredible, incredible man, I had such a great time and we had so much fun.”
Mercy, the second single from Marcus' self titled debut album, is out on June 3.
