Tulisa Contostavlos has revealed that her sex tape scandal was her "worst nightmare" because she thought her career was over.
The star, who looks likely to return to the X Factor this year, broke down in tears as she revealed on Alan Carr's Chatty Man show that she was frightened that the tape, which showed her getting intimate with her boyfriend at the time, would have a negative effect on her public persona and her career.
She said: "It was my worst nightmare. I had a bit of a nervous breakdown.
"I'm thinking, 'Oh God, my career could be over - the whole UK thinks I'm a slapper."
Having known since last summer of her ex boyfriend's possible plans to release the tape, Tulisa continued: "It’s been torture for about 8 months." Worried about about her future on the X Factor, the star revealed that she confided in her friend for advice.
"I said: 'Look there’s a possibility my ex has this footage and wants to release it. What is it going to do to my career? How is it going to affect me?'
"She said to me at the time that she didn’t know, she wasn’t sure. Which frightened me even more, obviously. So every day during X Factor I was absolutely sh***ing myself because I didn’t want anything like that out there."
Despite being devastated when the tape leaked online, Tulisa insisted that the tape could not be classed as a 'sex tape'.
She told Alan: "I would hardly call it a sex tape. Number one, there was no sex involved. Number two, a 19-year-old who's just starting to learn and her boyfriend pulls out a camera, doesn't really class as a sex tape.
"Everyone does it. Such a big deal has been made out of it that I feel like a bloody alien...I haven't done anything wrong, so any normal person would be like, 'She's human'."
