Singing sensation Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. The legendary singer was found unconscious in her hotel room in Los Angeles and despite attempts to save her life was pronounced dead at 3:55pm.
The cousin of Dionne Warwick, Whitney burst onto the music scene in the 1980s and dominated the charts with hits like 'Dance With Somebody' and 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go'. She won multiple awards including six Grammys and was regarded as one of the most talented vocalists of all time by fans and peers alike.
Her squeaky-clean image was tainted in 1992 when she married rapstar Bobby Brown and unknown to her fans was soon battling an addiction to drugs.
A shocking TV interview in 2002 revealed to the world the depths of Whitney's problems.
Whitney and Bobby parted in 2006 following a difficult marriage. She embarked on an on-off relationship with rapper Ray J following the split and was spotted with the star earlier this week in Los Angeles as she prepared for this weekend's Grammys.
She was meant to be attending her long term mentor Clive Davis' pre-Grammy Award party last night before tragedy struck in the early afternoon.
A police spokesman confirmed the death of the multi-award winning singer at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles yesterday.
The singer was found by a member of her security team who immediately contacted the emergency services. Despite Attempts to save her the singer was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:55pm.
She leaves behind one daughter, 18 year-old Bobbi Kristina who she had with ex-husband Bobby Brown. Bobby is said to be devestated over the news of her death and made a tearful tribute to the singer as he took to the stage last night in Mississippi.
