Dancing On Ice Stars Get Into Character For Movie Week

From the big screen to the small screen

It’s the third week of the competition and this week Dancing On Ice celebrated ‘Movie Week.’ It was the first time all of the remaining 13 contestants took to the ice in the same week, displaying months of challenging training as they zipped around the ice.

Former X Factor singer Chico was the first to sparkle on the ice, managing to score 18 points for his dance to ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.’ Louie Spence was particularly enthusiastic about his routine, saying:

“I certainly have a loving feeling! I will tell you why I enjoyed that as it’s about the character and you really did capture the moment.”

Fitness and diet guru Rosemary Conley still continued to struggle on the ice, and her stiff routines failed to impress the judges. But in contrast, children’s TV star Sam Nixon started to find his feet on the ice, confidently skating along to ‘Kung Fu Fighting’, which really impressed the three judges.

This week judge Katarina upset professional skier Chemmy Alcott, who danced with her partner Sean Rice to soul song ‘Rescue Me.’ Chemmy and Sean struggled with the lifts, and Katarina remarked:

“Chemmy I am begging you to not do those lifts, I really don’t want to see you up there, you are a pretty big woman.”

After the show the judge apologised profusely for offending Chemmy, explaining: “I meant it in a complimentary way, that she is a tall girl. As a skater I was a big girl, I was tall, I was big. I must say I am sorry, I think there it was really a language thing so sorry, sorry Great Britain.”

A “walking” Corey Feldman also failed to impress with his routine, as he skated along to ‘Stand By Me,’ having dedicated that night’s performance to his deceased friend River Phoenix, who was his co-star in the original film.

Both Jennifer Ellison and Mark Rhodes skated well to their movie soundtracks and received positive feedback, although they are failing to really stand out in the competition.

Jorgie Porter, already a favourite with the judges and the viewers, performed her routine to ‘9 to 5’ and obtained a high score of 21.5 out of 30, with with Katarina telling the actress: “Jorgie thank you, thank you, you are like a shining jewel for me, time flies by just watching you skating. You have the whole package.”

Matthew Wolfenden also got 21.5 out of 30 for his ‘Night Fever’ dance, and is proving to be the main competition to Jorgie in this year’s competition.

Andy Whyment has already won fans with his light-hearted personality, but this week his routine to ‘Grease’ earned him some much needed praise from judges as he showed an increase in skating skill.

The remaining skaters, including Charlene Tilton, Sebastien Foucan, Sam Nixon and Heidi Range all received respectable scores, but the judges now want to see more from the celebrities.

A “gutted” Mark Rhodes became the latest person to skate off the show after finding himself in the bottom two against Dallas star Charlene Tilton.
