As much of a Christmas essential as a speech from the Queen, the X Factor winner's single has been a fixture of December's music charts since 2004.
With one exception, the show has mostly gone against the trend of releasing an original song, as was done by Fame Academy, Popstars and Pop Idol, and instead opted for a sparkly re-working of an existing ballad.
Among the best-sellers are Leona Lewis' re-working of Kelly Clarkson's own coronation track 'A Moment Like This', Alexandra Burke's re-hash of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', and Matt Cardle's glossy makeover of Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror', under the new name of 'When We Collide'.
There's also been use of tunes by Miley Cyrus, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and now Damien Rice.
