With newspapers and internet sites bombarding us with images and stories from last night's National Television Awards, now is as good a time as any to show that, despite everybody's best efforts, award shows don't always go according to plan.
From Marlon Brando's refusal of the Best Actor award at the 1972 Oscars, through to Miley Cyrus poledancing in front of the Teen Choice Awards crowd in 2009, celebrities have constantly managed to find a way to bring a level of mayhem and, at times, outrage, to what would otherwise be, a well thought out event.

Ricky Gervais, Golden Globes (2011) - No mean feat this one, as Ricky Gervais managed to alienate and offend the entire Hollywood community in the space of three hours.
