With the Oscars approaching faster than an attack of Global Warming, we got our fashion brains ticking over to create the perfect look for our favourite stars.

1. To stand out for the right reasons on the red carpet try a full-length silk dress. Plunging neck lines or high slits will give maximum impact. But doing both should be left only to Liz Hurley.

2. If you want something a bit more fun and youthful try a shorter dress, or copy the style of Penelope Cruz and give fish tails, or flamenco inspired finishes a go.

3.  The hair of the season is down and tousled creating a fresh bohemian look . Old school buns look dated and can give a serious tone to an outfit.

4. Smokey eyes are big this season and can look amazing on the red carpet. But if you want to give the eyes a miss and prefer to add some old school glamour, try red berry lips.
