Mad Men took home the top prize for the second year running at the Emmy awards in Los Angeles last night.

The show, set inside the office of a 1960s advertising agency, scooped Best Drama for its second series.

Glenn Close won Lead Actress In A Drama Series for Damages, while Bryan Cranston came top in the male category for Breaking Bad.

Other awards went to Toni Colette, who won Leading Actress In A Comedy for United States of Tara and Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock.

British actor Ricky Gervais was among the guests at the ceremony – and he joked that it was his favourite awards bash.

"The thing about Oscars and the Golden Globes is they got film stars there," he said.

"With their jaw lines and chiselled looks, making me feel bad. But in this room, I'm probably above average."

Stars from the small screen had earlier dazzled on the red carpet outside the Nokia Theatre.
