In January 1984, while shooting a lucrative Pepsi commercial in front of thousands of fans in Los Angeles, Michael was hit by a freak accident. His hair (allegedly doused in hair spray) accidentally caught fire from pyrotechnics on stage leaving Michael with second degree burns. PepsiCo settled the ensuing court case with a $1.5million payout to the charity the 'Michael Jackson Burns Center'.
