Continuing his business ventures, Michael bought Northern Songs in 1985 for a speculated $47million – a music company which owned the back catalogue of artists including Elvis and The Beatles. He outbid Paul McCartney in the race to buy the songs, who failed to join forces with John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono for a joint bid. McCartney was unhappy with the acquisition, saying: "I think it's dodgy to do things like that. To be someone's friend and then buy the rug they're standing on". (Image: WENN.com)
