BFFs Jennifer Lopez Cosies Up To Nicki Minaj Amid American Idol Return Rumours

Could the singer be replacing Mariah Carey?

Jennifer Lopez has been spotted cosying up to Nicki Minaj as speculation mounts that she could be replacing Mariah Carey on American Idol.

Current judges Mariah and Nicki are known for their diva spats, and apparently Fox network are keen to get J-Lo back onto the Idol team after she was replaced by the Honey singer.

However, despite a rep for the show confirming: "This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumour, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale", we're certain that Mariah will not be happy after Nicki cosied up the Latino singer at the Met Ball on Monday night.

"chillin w/@jlo (sic)", Nicki tweeted as the stars posed in their finery at the prestigious fashion event.

The feud between the fiesty American Idol judges spilled over onto Twitter last week after they came to blows on the talent show, and Mariah's husband Nick has been quick to defend his wife, appearing to slam the show's bosses for "feeding" the hostility.

"It’s kind of unfortunate. When you see someone like my wife, who tries to remain classy and tries to take the high road, it feels like everybody else around it - including the network and the producers - feed into this whole sound bite drama. It feels like it lacks substance," Nick criticised during an interview on The Talk.

"I think America in general is tired of seeing the mean judges and people be mean to people. They’re over it. In the book of Mariah Carey, American Idol will be a footnote."
