Jennifer Hudson To Appear On Cover Of Vogue

Dreamgirls actress Jennifer Hudson is to become the first black singer to grace the front cover of Vogue magazine.

Hudson will only become the third ever black woman to appear on the cover, after chat show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Oscar winning actress Halle Berry.

The cover was shot be renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz in New York City?s Harlem Theatre.

Hudson has won both a Golden Globe and Bafta for best actress in a supporting role for her portrayal as Effie White in the big screen adaptation of broadway musical Dreamgirls. She is also nominated for best actress Oscar.

Jennifer Hudson?s rise to the Hollywood A list comes just three years after she was voted off the third series of American Idol.

I don’t believe that Jennifer Hudson will be only the 3rd black woman to appear on Vogue’s cover. I believe that the 1st was the beautiful Beverly Johnson a few decades ago. I think that Iman also appeared on the Vogue’s cover before Halle Berry & Oprah Winfrey.

I am thrilled that they have chosen to put a woman of color and not one that is rail thin on the cover of such a magazine. Jennifer represents what most woman look like in size. This is a wonderful year for her. Congraulations! Vogue and Jen

I think it’s great she’s on the cover but she’s not the third black woman. Beverly Johnson was the first as mentioned by seatown. And 13 other black women have appeared solo on Vogue covers and additional 4 black women (including the gorgeous Iman) have appeared non-solo on Vogue covers. Hudson isn’t even the third black entertainer as mentioned by other reports. Shari Belafonte, Oprah, Mel B. (Scary Spice?) and Halle Berry graced the cover of Vogue prior to Jennifer Hudson.
