Russell Crowe Devastated At Steve Irwin's Death

Actor flies back to Australia...

Thursday 14th Sep 2006

Australian actor Russell Crowe has flown back to his home country to host a tribute to the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.

Irwin was killed earlier this month after being struck through the heart by a stingray?s barb; he is survived by his wife Terri, daughter Bindi and son Bob.

Crowe has been given three days leave from the set of his current film ?American Gangster? to host the tribute.

On hearing of Irwin?s death Crowe described him as "the Australian we all aspire to be".

"He was and remains the ultimate wildlife warrior. He touched my heart, I believed in him, I'll miss him."

A public memorial service will be held at the Crocoseum at the Australia Zoo next Wednesday.

  • Good on you Russell! It’s good to see fellow Aussie’s who are working overseas so keen to temporarily stop their work and support the family back home. Great comments, mate :-)

  • ”Australian actor Russell Crowe has flown back to his home country to host a tribute to the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.” The information quoted above is incorrect. According to more accurate Crowe news, there is no time to travel. He will participate but not in person.

  • Steve Irwin was original, innovative humorous and above all truly loved his work. Quite simply without annalysing stuff to much I loved steve irwin. And I love nature documentary’s. I know he was a bit crazy sometimes, rolling around like a big kid but thats how he connected with everyone and why I laughed my head off so much. But at the same time I was utterly absorbed by his hands on approach and have learnt so much.
