Green Day Announce New Tour As Billie Joel Armstrong Insists He's 'Getting Better Everyday'

The frontman entered rehab in September halting the band's initial tour

Green Day have announced a string of new tour dates for 2013 as the band's frontman Billie Joel Armstrong assures fans that he is "getting better everyday" and is hoping to rejoin his bandmates on the trek.

The 'American Idiot' rockers were forced to postpone their 2012 summer tour after Armstrong had an on-stage meltdown during a performance at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, before the frontman entered a rehab facility in September.

After a brief hiatus, the band are ready to hit the road again to perform for their fans across North America and Canada kicking off in March, and Armstrong has announced that he will joining them.

"We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," the band said in a statement.

"We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."

While the new slate of gigs includes 11 new dates, Green Day also announced the cancellation of 10 previously scheduled shows in January and February."

Armstrong released a statement of his own, assuring his loyal fans that he is well on the road to recovery.

"Dear friends ... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months," Armstrong said.

"Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger."
