Katie Holmes celebrated Christmas as a single woman this year, after her swift divorce from Tom Cruise earlier this year and she was pictured returning to work with a huge smile on her face after the holiday yesterday.
The 34-year-old actress split with the ‘Jack Reacher’ actor six months ago, and despite not having spent Christmas Day with her daughter Suri, according to reports, the actress still smiled for onlookers as she headed into the Music Box theatre in New York.

Earlier this month at the London premiere of his new film, 50-year-old Tom revealed that six-year-old Suri would be spending Christmas day with him, and his other children 17-year-old Connor and 20-year-old Isabella.
“We have got lots of very special things planned (for the holidays),” he said on the red carpet. “We are all going to be together. I am looking forward to it.”
It’s thought that Suri also spent Thanksgiving with her dad Tom in London, while he continued promotional duties.
The actress, who celebrated her birthday on December 18, is currently starring in the play Dead Accounts on Broadway and only had a short break for Christmas, before returning yesterday.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Katie was splashing out on a luxury gift for her daughter – a $24,000 Grand Victorian Playhouse – which has its own water supply, electricity, dining oom and intercoms, but this was denied by the store that sells the luxe toy.
It was also claimed that Suri was to received a $6,000 miniature Mercedes Benz, as well as an iPad mini, a Chloe fur coat and Ralph Lauren dress.
Despite having a family Christmas this year, Tom is also said to have found some time for romance, according to InTouch magazine.
The ‘Mission Impossible’ actor was said to have gone out for a date with 26-year-old Cynthia Jorge.
Tom is said to be “enamoured” with the New York restaurant manager and the couple were spotted having a drink and dancing at Le Baron nightclub in Chinatown (on Katie’s birthday).
"At one point, they began grinding together. It was straight out of ‘Dirty Dancing.’ Tom seemed to be in his own world, completely smitten,” a source told the magazine.
Meanwhile the doorman has denied reports that Tom was at the club, as he told the New York Daily News: “I was here all night and I didn’t see him. I read about it and I was surprised. If he was here, I would have seen him. I don’t believe it. It didn’t happen here.”
