After months and months of hard work, gruelling training sessions and countless performances, the Strictly Come Dancing grand final has finally arrived- and they really saved the best till last!
On this penultimate show of the series, four celebrities remain to battle it out for the coveted glitter ball, but only one of them will waltz their way to glory. And on tonight’s show Kimberley Walsh, Louis Smith, Dani Harmer and Denise Van Outen all proved that they were worthy contenders.
We all knew that the final was never easy and this year there are no exceptions as the celebrities and their partners had to do at least two dances- judges pick and a show dance.
Kicking off the show tonight were Denise and James, who were determined to improve on the judges choice of dance- the jive. And improve they did, as they kicked, flicked and jumped their way through a show-stopping routine.
Head judge Len said it was a “fantastic combination of athleticism and artistry”, whilst Bruno called it “wicked and premium grade.” And adding a rarely seen glimpse of humour, Craig appeared to slate the routine before exclaiming he was only joking and that it was indeed “great” Oh ha ha Craig!
The dance scored 39 points, which is an amazing score to kick of the night with. Their second dance which was the much anticipated show dance, was probably the biggest thrill of the night so far.
Dressed in a sparkly black cat suit, Denise showed of incredible skill and bravery as James spun her around in numerous eye-popping lifts. Bruno says that the dance had an "incredible level of difficulty, like professional exhibition dancers", whilst Craig said "I cannot believe what your body did". They scored a perfect 40 points.
Next up to try and impress the judges and the audience were pint-sized pair Dani and Vincent, who were dancing the judges pick of the Tango.
The last time Dani danced to this, she was told that she looked like a “mardy teenager”, so obviously she was determined to show she was all woman this time around.
The dance received a mixed response from the judges, mostly positive however. Darcey said that Dani looked like a “sophisticated woman” who had lots of attack, whilst Craig commented on the “clean and efficient” way that the couple danced. “Team smurf” received a respectable 36 points.
Their show dance too proved to be impressive as they dance to 'Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen. A mix of the Paso Doble and the Rumba, the pair looked slick in their black and white outfits.
Whilst grumpy Craig said it had “lumpy transitions but extraordinary content”, Len compared it to a cocktail- in a good way! They scored 35 points.
Kimberley and Pasha’s judges pick dance was the Viennese Waltz, which earned them 34 points the first time around. But the judges were doubly happy this time around as they scored a spell-binding 39 points.
The routine was full of elegance and the judges were clearly blown away by the vast improvement made by the pair. Len exclaimed that “last time I liked it, this time I loved it!” whilst Bruno said that it was “perfection”.
On a completely opposite scale to this serene dance was their show dance, which was wild and sexy as they strutted their stuff to Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in love’.
Full of shimmies, shakes and a costume change, Kimberley looked fierce as she went all out. Bruno said it was “deliriously sexy” whilst Craig summed it up so perfectly by saying it was: “indecent, improper, absolute filth,” “I loved it!” Unsurprisingly it scored 39 points.
Last but not least to do their judges pick were Louis and Flavia, who earlier in the series wowed everyone with the Dirty Dancing inspired salsa routine. And they wowed everyone again as the routine was vastly improved from last time- with even more salsa and even more snake-hips from Louis!
Cheeky Len commented on Louis' “bionic bum” whilst an over excited Bruno dubbed him a “snake-hipped wonder!”
But this was nothing compared their second dance where Louis decided that the best way to score votes was to do an Artem- yes, he went topless!
The ladies in the audience were very appreciative, including Darcey, as Louis showed exactly why he’s a medal winning Olympic gymnast. Showing of his incredible strength, he and Flavia performed a rumba-style routine to That That’s hit ‘Rule the world’.
With incredible lifts displaying both their skill and athleticism, the pair blew both the audience and the judges away, earning them a magnificent score of 40 points!
So, what an incredible grand final so far. It’ll be incredibly hard to pick a winner, but someone has to be. Who do you think will take the glitter ball tonight?
