Justin Bieber has been severly criticised for giving away his pet hampster to a fan by animal rights campaigners.

TMZ claimed to have seen video footage of the 'Boyfriend' singer handing a cage containing his pet hamster named Pac to a female fan during the Jingle Ball concert at the Philips Arena in Atlanta last week.

In the short clip, Biebs reportedly can be heard faintly telling the unsuspecting fan to look after the furry creature, saying: "You gotta take care of PAC." While the girl then screams back: "I WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM!"

However, the 18-year-old's concert antics haven't gone down so well with officials at the California Hamster Association, who slammed the star for behaving iresponsibly.

A spokesperson for the group told TMZ: "[Hamsters] often succumb quickly to illness and death (when faced with) sudden environmental change..."

Adding: "The moment that hamster was handed off to a screaming girl in a harsh, frenzied environment was likely the moment it gazed at the short path to its doom."

Fans have speculated that Biebs gave poor Pac to his fan because he was unable to take him on a plane.

Oh Biebs, you should probably think more about your actions.
