Sources have hit back at claims Kristen Stewart, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry are embroiled in a three way cat fight over an upcoming film role by describing the allegations as utter rubbish.
Earlier this week US publication Star claimed the trio were vying with one another to play Freddie Mercury's best friend Mary Austin in an upcoming biopic charting the late Queen singer's life.
“Lady GaGa, Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart are on the short list for (Mary Austin), who played a huge role in Freddie's life,” an unnamed source reportedly told the magazine, adding: “They all desperately want the part, and it's getting ugly!”
According to the magazine British actor Sacha Baron Cohen – who will play Freddie in the new movie - has the 'final say' over who gets the part, but is already tiring of their catty behaviour.
“With the girls fighting like this, it's just hurting their chances of getting the part,” claimed the source.
Insiders close to the project have since dismissed the story as nonsense manufactured to create unnecessary controversy.
Speaking to Gossip Cop they insist that no casting conversations involving GaGa have taken place, while Perry and Stewart reps have told the website that neither actress is involved in discussions for the role.
Cohen was cast as the flambouyant singer back in 2010, when plans for the film were still on the drawingboard. According to a recent posting on Queen guitarist Brian May's website, it should be ready for release in 2014.
Freddie died in November 1991 after a long battle with AIDS.
