Gwen Stefani has confessed that she much prefers being a member of No Doubt to being a solo artist.
The star released two albums away from the popular group during the 00s, but reformed with her bandmates for a new album this year.
"I did the solo thing, but I felt like I was trying to play a character in a way, this Alice in Wonderland pretend version of myself," she told Spanish Vogue. "But this, being in No Doubt, is really who I am."
She continued: "Time kind of stops when you're in a band. It's this suspended childhood, and it's really awesome, that part of it.
"But then when you have a family of your own, it forces you to go into the adult world a little bit more."
Stefani's first solo record Love. Angel. Music. Baby. was released in 2004 and reached the Top 5 in the US and the UK, being certified 3x Platinum in both territories.
Follow-up The Sweet Escape reached No3 in the US and No14 in the UK.
