Simon Pegg Announces Treat For Trekkies As 'Star Trek' Trailer Gets Online Premiere Thursday

Star announces new clip set for release

The first trailer for 'Star Trek Into Darkness' will get an online premiere tomorrow, and it was left to the man who plays Scotty in the sci-fi franchise, Simon Pegg to make the announcement.

The star posted on Twitter last night (December 4):

According to the fan site TrekMovie.com fan site, the trailer set to get its debut tomorrow will be an online exclusive, which will be a minute long.

A longer version of the trailer will appear alongside 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' when it opens on December 14.

The film, a long-awaited sequel to 2009's 'Star Trek', will see the return of actors Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban ('bones' McCoy) and John Cho (Hikaru Sulu).

Directed by JJ Abrams, the movie is set for release on May 17 2013. Last week a poster was released showing a mysterious figure overseeing a lskyscape that appears to be a futuristic London.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch will play the villain, described in a plot synopsis as a "one-man weapon of mass destruction". The Paramount teaser also hinted that Captain Kirk will lead a "manhunt" to discover the villain.
