The 2012 American Music Awards kicked off in style on Sunday night with performances from the likes of Christina Aguilera, Pink, Usher, Justin Bieber and more.

Some of the hottest names in music filled the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the 40th year of the music event.

Korean rapper Psy got everyone on their feet as he performed his smash hit dance single 'Gangnam Style,' during which he surprised the audience by bringing U Can't Touch This star MC Hammer to perform the famous routine. Both artists performed each other's popular dances with Psy even donning the rapper's 'Hammer pants' which were popularised in the 90s.

Also taking to the stage was country starlet Taylor Swift, who performed her new single 'I Knew You Were Trouble,' while Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen performed both 'This Kiss and 'Call Me Maybe.'

Meanwhile, Usher treated the audience to a medley of his 'Climax,' 'Numb' and 'Can't Stop,' while the UK's very own The Wanted sang their new single 'I Found You.'

Chris Brown also tore up the stage for a performance of Everyday Birthday, a collaboration with Swizz Beatz and Ludacris. Justin Bieber was also joined by Nicki Minaj while they performed 'Beauty and a Beat.'
