Contemporary Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy and legendary Latin singer Juanes were the big winners at the 2012 Grammy Awards last night, during the award's 13th year.
Jesse & Joy broke tradition last night taking home the award for their heartbreak ballad '!Corre! (Run!),' which was named Song of the Year (songwriting award) while the track also won Record of the Year (recorded single), managing to fend off competition from the usual favourites. Their third studio album Con Quien Se Queda El Perro? (Who Is The Dog Staying With?) lost out on the Album of the Year award, but it did score the Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album gong.
"Viva Mexico!" Jesse said while accepting the duo's award.
Meanwhile, legendary singer Juanes took home the Album of the Year award for his MTV Unplugged record, which also bagged the Best Long-Form Video. It wasn't just Juanes taking the glory for the album, with Dominican songwriter Juan Luis Guerra being named Producer of the Year for the record.
During his acceptance speech, Juanes, who has now won a mind-blowing 19 Latin Grammy Awards, credited the album's producer saying: "Here's to the maestro Juan Luis Guerra for making this possible." Juanes now ties with reggaeton group Calle 13 for the most Latin Grammys won.
Other winners include 3Ball MTY who won Best New Artist, David Bisbal who won Best Traditional Pop Album for 5 Una Noche en el Teatro Real, Don Omar who took home the Best Urban Music Album gong for Don Omar Presents MTO: New Generation.
Omar also won Best Urban Song for Hasta Que Salga el Sol while Molotov won Best Rock Album for Desde Rusia Con Amor.
