Ashes to Mars and all that...

Star Trek's Scotty's Final Send To Space
James Doohan took his day job as Star Treks Scotty quite seriously, thank you. He died this July aged 85, and in line with his wishes, is to have his ashes sent into space via December 6ths Explorer Flight.

James Doohan
who played Scotty Montgomery in TV series Star Trek, was the spirited crew member commanded to beam up Captain James Kirk when he was troubled in another atmosphere.

Unbeknownst to most the catch phrase, Beam me up Scotty made popular through pop culture, was never actually used in the sci-fi show.

Scottys taking similar steps to heaven as Star Treks creator Gene Roddenberry, whose ashes are said to have returned to earth in 2002 after an 11 year floating absence. Doohanll be out for a little longer, like 50 to 200 years, before burning up upon entry to the planets atmosphere.

Doohans family are holding an open, literally at 60 acres, service at a site near Vandenberg Air Force Base north of Los Angeles, within close proximity to, and on the same day as, Explorer Flight and Doohans lift off.

He shall not be alone, but joined by at least 120 others, including the lady astrogeologist who set the site for mans first landing on the moon, Mareta West.

Doohans widow Wende said in her public invite; "I can't think of a more fitting send-off than having some of his fans attend this, his final journey."

You, the fan, can write old Scotty a message which will be digitalised, on the Space Services website (http://www.spaceservicesinc.com), and will keep him company when he boldly goes where other dead men have been before.
