'Goldie' rapper A$AP Rocky says he didn't expect to receive so much publicity for grabbing Rihanna's bum during their performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year.

The Brooklyn-born rapper shocked the audience, which included Rihanna's ex Chris Brown, when he grabbed a handful of the singer's derriere while they were performing the remix of her single 'Birthday Cake.'

Reports that the pair were dating spiralled after A$AP's raunchy antics but the rapper says the grabbing wasn't planned and just happened in the spur of the moment.

"I didn't mean for the ass grab to be the thing. I don't fiend for fake publicity sh*t. I'm just a trill ni**a," A$AP told Complex magazine.

Aside from the romance rumours, the rapper reveals that he admires Rihanna for the success she has achieved in the last seven years, and hopes to do the same in a few years.

"Rihanna is what I want to be, as far as having a big core following. She's very successful. She's been doing it for years. Think about it," A$AP explained.

"'Pon de Replay'.... So '05, '06, '07, '08, '09, '10, '11, '12.... She's got seven years in this sh*t. Shout-outs to that young lady, and hopefully, with the grace of God, seven years from now, I can say the same."

Rihanna is gearing up for her '777' mini tour which will see the Bajan songstress travelling to seven different countries across seven days to promote her seventh studio album, Unapologetic, which will be released on November 19.

It was announced earlier today that RiRi will be heading to the UK in June 2013 as part of her 'Diamonds' world tour.
