You won't hear many actors talking down their Oscar chances when they're one of the favourites for a gold statuette, but Bradley Cooper is apparently one of them.
His new movie 'Silver Linings Playbook' is among the top five favourites for a gong, as is Cooper, with Jennifer Lawrence an outright favourite for Best Actress.
The film sees the 'Hangover' actor take on the role of Pat Solitano, a man with bipolar disorder who is forced to move back in with his parents, desperate to repair his relationship with his wife.
Of his chances the actor told Reuters: “In terms of all that Oscar stuff, honestly that would be absolutely insane."
The star, who's building a reputation for himself as a dramatic as well as comic actor, added: “I very much doubt that it would happen. But it would be insane.”
Cooper was excited about the opportunity the role has given him, saying: “This character has to go from A to Z in the emotional landscape, which is heaven for an actor. I've never been able to do these kinds of things on film, so it was a huge opportunity.”
Receiving acclaim for his dramatic abilities would enable the actor to branch out and become a true member of the Hollywood A-List, but his own popularity was far from the actor's mind when discussing the film as he said: “What I feel is excitement and hope that people go out and see this film and love it. I really hope the movie lives. That's all I think about.”
The film gets its US release this Friday (November 16).
