'Skyfall' Goes Global: James Bond Hit Set For Huge US Box Office Debut

On course to be biggest Bond ever in North America

James Bond has made his mark on the US box office in spectacular fashion.

'Skyfall', the 23rd addition to the 50-year-old franchise, has landed at the top of the country's box office charts with a massive $88 million haul - a bigger debut than any previous 007 capers.

The feat shoves last week's chart-topper 'Wreck-It Ralph' down to second place with a $30 million gross, followed by Denzel Washington's 'Flight' in third with $13 million.

'Argo' is on course to poll fourth with $6 million, ahead of 'Taken 2' with $4 million.

'The Man With The Iron Fists', 'Pitch Perfect', 'Cloud Atlas' and 'Here Comes The Boom' are expected to battle it out for sixth, seventh, eigth and ninth places with around $2.4 million.

'Paranormal Activity' should round off the Top 10 with $2 million.

'Skyfall' is already the most successful film of 2012 in the UK, eclipsing 'The Hunger Games', 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Avengers Assemble'.

It overtook its competition in just twelve days, after taking just ten to break the £50 million barrier.

Entertainmentwise readers recently voted it the best Bond so far.
