Javier Bardem is chilling in his role as Silva in the new James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’, but according to a new interview with CinemaBlend, it could have been a very different character that we could have been seeing him play.
The ‘Skyfall’ star allegedly revealed that he had been approached “years ago” to play James Bond himself.
When asked if he had been offered the role of 007, Bardem says: “Years ago, I was. I don’t remember what movie it was for. But yeah, it was not that time.”
A source has now told Entertainment Weekly that the Oscar-winning actor was misquoted, or he didn’t understand the question.
It turns out that Javier was never actually offered the role of Bond, but he was indeed offered a part in a Bond movie – which he obviously turned down, until now. Unfortunately we’ll never know what the other role that Javier was offered.
But, Entertainment Weekly speculate that Javier was probably approached following his role in ‘Before The Night Falls’, when Daniel Craig took up the mantel as the super-spy – meaning that it could have been the role of Le Chiffre in Casino Royal or the other baddie in Quantum of Solace.
Meanwhile, Daniel Craig appears to have been ruffling a few feathers by claiming that he’d been trying to quit as Bond ever since he agreed to it.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said: "I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it."
And then he adds: "But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business and if the [bleep] goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their a** with."
Well Daniel, we wouldn’t let you go either…
