69 year old comedian Freddie Starr was arrested this afternoon (November 1) on suspicion of sexual offences and was taken into police custody.
Police have been investigating claims that Jimmy Savile had sexually assaulted underage girls and boys while working for the BBC.
The claims have embroiled the late entertainer in scandal and Starr is the second person to be arrested in connection with Savile after Gary Glitter was questioned on Sunday.
Freddie Starr had previously denied ever meeting Karin Ward, who claimed he had molested her in Savile's dressing room when she was 14 years old.
It has been reported that he later changed his story as footage reportedly emerged of them on the programme Savile had hosted in the 1970s.
Police launched a criminal investigation into the Jimmy Savile abuse claims after allegations were made about living people.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Officers working on Operation Yewtree have this evening, Thursday 1 November, arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.
“The man, from Warwickshire, was arrested at approximately 17.45 hrs on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into police custody locally. The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'.”
Scotland Yard are investigating claims made by over 300 victims.
