Strictly Come Dancing & The X Factor Both Suffer Declining Ratings

But dance show is still on top

Ratings took a minor dip for both Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor last night - but the BBC competition is still comfortably leading its ITV rival.

The X Factor's ratings dropped 200,000 to 8.4 million last night (inclusing ITV1+1), peaking at 9.4 million.

There was also a minor dip for Strictly Come Dancing, as it descended to 9.6 million - a minor drop from last week's 9.91 million.

Its peak audience was a gargantuan 10.8 million; again a slight decrease week-on-week. Last Saturday's Hollywood edition had hit a high of 11.3 million.

Both shows are still the most-watched on Saturday nights, with The X Factor continuing to dominate social media discussion. Trends last night included #jahmazing and #fagashbreath.

Results shows tonight will reveal which contstants have been sent home.

But, in recent weeks, Downton Abbey has outperformed both contests to take the Sunday crown.

The X Factor's biggest "fix" scandals

Amelia Lily was announced as the comeback kid online before lines had officially closed. Bosses pointed out that similar news stories about Jonjo Kerr, James Michael and 2 Shoes had also been put online.
