This week’s Strictly Come Dancing Halloween special proved to be hair-raising as a whole manner of witches, ghouls and zombies put their best foot forward. But who’s performance was bewitching and who was simply having a nightmare!
Kicking off tonight’s creepy proceedings were the professional dancers who wowed the audience with their version of the ever popular ‘Thriller’. Looking hauntingly beautiful in white costumes, the professionals were soon joined by their celebrity partners, who were decked out in deadly red attire complete with fangs and blood. The routine was met with rapturous applause from the appreciative audience.
That applause continued to flow as many of the celebs impressed both the judges and the audience with their freakily good routines. None more so than Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, who alongside his partner Flavia shot to the top of the leader board after their amazing Tango. Scoring 35 out of 40, and also securing the first 9’s of the series, Darcy Bussell described the dance as “spookily good.” She also went on to warn Louis of his high kicks, saying: “watch it in your kicks- you mustn’t have a higher leg than your girl!”
Also receiving high scores tonight were Michael, Kimberly and Victoria who all scored a spellbinding 31 points. It was Michael however who seemed to cast the biggest spell on everyone after being in the bottom two last week. The ex England cricketer and his partner Natalie seemed to do a magical u-turn by going from dance-off to near the top of the leader board, all thanks to their wonderful quickstep. An excitable Bruno exclaimed: “that was more than magical, it was a miracle!”, whilst Craig- who is not normally lost for words- simply applauded.
However, not everyone escapes a tongue-lashing from Craig, as Sid Owen sadly learnt. Following his Ghostbusters themed cha cha cha, Craig called the performance a “Halloween nightmare!” Not one to be left out, Bruno said: "it still looks like you’re smothered in ectoplasm!” Unsurprisingly Sid and professional partner Ola received a ghoulish 17points, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the leader board.
Richard Arnold and Erin Boag didn’t seem to fair much better as their Paso Doble was met with a barrage of abuse from an un-amused Craig. Although the dance was followed by a standing ovation and head judge Len described Richard as a “great big butch bull-fighter”, Bruno was not that impressed and said that it was like Gary Numan with a bad temper!” Oh dear!
All in all, it was a ‘Franken-tastic’ show, with the celebrities pulling out all their best moves to win the votes of the audience. But who has quickstepped their way out of the bottom two and who’ll be facing the deadly dance-off? Find out in tomorrow’s results show!
