Rylan Clark has laughed off rumours that Gary Barlow and Tulisa told their X Factor contestants to stay away from him.

It was reported yesterday that the rival mentors had feared the divisive hopeful would be a bad influence on their own acts.

However, Rylan said on Twitter: "Just to clarify..... Gary and T have not told the overs and girls to stay away from me haha! #hilar x"

Rylan and Lucy were kicked out of the Corinthia hotel, where all of the acts are staying, when they arrived back drunk and disorderly following last Sunday's results show.

A source told the Daily Mirror, "Tulisa was disappointed with Lucy - she had her down as a serious musician and a real competitor for this years title but now she thinks she's just here for a laugh.

"They really embarrassed themselves. Photos of them rolling around drunk in the street appeared and it really brings the show into disrepute."

Frankie Cocozza, who was kicked off last year's show for 'breaking a golden rule', has refuted these claims. He said that producers actively encouraged him to go out and cause mayhem last year.

He said: "They'd tell me I had VIP at a club and would book me a car to take me to the door. Then when I arrived there were paps everywhere!

"They wouldn't let me do the songs I wanted to do, they wouldn't let me wear what I wanted to, and I was just too much of a pussy to say no."

The X Factor continues tonight on ITV1.
