Fans of Take That star Gary Barlow were left disappointed yesterday as tickets to see the star in his first ever solo tour sold out in 90 minutes.

The tickets that went on sale at 10am yesterday were not only sold out on the Civic Hall website, but within minutes tickets were being sold on eBay for three times their value.

The singers' fans wasted no time in expressing their frustration at not being able to get tickets, with many complaining that the phone lines for the Civic Hall were 'busy' for the entire morning.

Commercial Manager for the Civic Centre Rupert Knowldon said: "We experienced unprecedented demand for the tickets. The telephones were ringing off the hook. We spoke to a huge number of people and tried to offer our help."

Many fans used Twitter to contact the star directly and express their 'heartbreak' at not getting their tickets. One fan called Heather tweeted the star: "I never managed to get one and the ebay ticket prices were shocking."

Gary, 41, sympathised with his fans and tweeted them with the following message: "I've heard you're all buying lots of tickets ! I'm adding one extra date now ! Hammersmith Apollo 27th December."

Gary then later tweeted: "Thank you so much for showing your support for my live dates! I promise you a night to remember!Sorry to everyone who didn't get tickets! We didn't know how strong the demand would be."
