After weeks of preparation, the cast of Emmerdale took on their biggest challenge...acting in a live episode to celebrate the hit ITV1 soap's 40th anniversary and with the promise of two weddings, two babies and the demise of a character, e couldn't wait!
With various storylines promising to come to a head tonight, the cast including Lucy Pargeter (Chas), Tom Lister (Carl King), Charlie Webb (Debbie Dingle) and Dominic Power (Cameron) put on an outstanding performance.
The show kicked off with Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) walking out of the village church as a newly married couple whilst at Home Farm, Katie Sugden (Sammy Winward) and Declan Macey (Jason Merrells) celebrated their union with a lavish wedding reception.
However, whilst Katie and Declan enjoyed their wedding, despite the interruption from Declan's sister Megan (Gaynor Faye), who threatened to tell everyone that Declan tried to rip her off, all was not well with at Chas and Dan's wedding reception in the village B&B.
With Carl King's (Tom Lister) threat on her mind, Chas made the heartbreaking decision to leave Dan in a bid to stop Carl telling Dan and Debbie Dingle (Charlie Webb) that she had been having an affair with Debbie's boyfriend, Cameron.
A heated fight between Chas and Carl ensued with him confessing that he killed his father, Tom King for her. He shouted: "I stuck up for you when he badmouthed you. I knew exactly what he thought of me when I pushed him from that window. That's right, Chas, I killed my own dad for you. My own dad!"
As the pair fought, viewers saw Chas grab a brick and hit Carl to the floor.
Did she kill him?
If two weddings wasn't enough drama for the characters of the village, viewers saw Debbie going into labour without Cameron being present. Gennie Walker (Sian Reese Williams) was also being told to 'push' as she went into labour on the floor of the B&B.
As the drama unfolded between Chas and Carl and between Katie and Megan, Debbie welcomed a baby boy whilst Gennie welcomed a baby girl, who was introduced to new dad Nikil Sharma (Rik Makarem) after he fainted!
Despite Chas hitting him on the head with a brick, viewers saw Carl trying his best to send the picture of Chas and Cameron together to Debbie.
With Chas believing she had killed him, it was Cameron who appeared and dealt Carl the last blow of his life!
Wow!
