Selena Gomez and Adam Sandler's new animation 'Hotel Transylvania' has scored the biggest ever opening for a September release in the US.
The comedy caper, focussing on iconic characters such as Dracula and Frankenstein's monster, raked in an impressive $43 million. The number is also the biggest debut for any release by Sony Pictures Animation.

Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 'Looper', which has won unanimous acclaim from critics, finished in second with an impressive $21.2 million.
The thriller, which also stars British darling Emily Blunt, is being billed as "this decade's 'Matrix'".
Elsewhere, as we reported on Saturday, new drama 'Won't Back Down' failed to set cinemas alight, taking in just $2.7 million to debut at the very bottom of the Top 10.
Last week's No1 'End Of Watch' slipped two places to No3, whilst 'Trouble With The Curve' and 'House At The End Of The Street' fell to Nos 4 and 5 respectively.
'Pitch Perfect' bowed in sixth position with a $5.2 million gross.
The UK boix office figures will follow later this week.
