X Factor's Nicole Scherzinger Takes Praise Of One Direction Success: 'Simon Listened To Me'

Star reveals that she saw potential in the boys as a band

There's no doubt that the One Direction lads are pretty successful both here in the UK and the US and whilst Simon Cowell is making sure that everyone and their dog knows that the lads were created from his talent show juggernaut, new X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger has hinted that it was her idea to put the group together after she said: "Simon was very smart. He listened to me."

In an interview with the Mail Online, the star, who has joked previously that she should take some of the credit for Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne's success, the judge, who will be seen mentoring the boys category on the show this year, revealed:

"We had a bunch of great young guys with One Direction, but none of them were ready to go out on their own in the boys’ category. I thought, ‘If we put this group together the girls are going to go crazy. Together they will be irresistible.’ Simon was very smart. He listened to me."

Revealing that she's committed to the opportunity of being a judge on the UK version of the show, Nicole continued:

"I have been through the school of Simon Cowell. I feel fortunate that I got to work for him. I understand the urgency and how great an opportunity this really is. I make sure my energy level is up, committing 110 per cent all the time. The show is about the contestants, about finding authentic original talent. And we have found great talent."

Following the reports that she had splashed out on a plush pad in London to be closer to her boyfriend Lewis Hamilton, the former Pussycat Doll admitted that she won't get to see much of her beau due to their conflicting schedules.

She said: "I wish I could spend more time with Lewis. Everyone thinks that I’ll be able to see more of him while I’m in London, but unfortunately my live shows and his races are at the same time. We do our best. Obviously it’s a challenge being in different countries and having demanding schedules."
