Bye Chris Moyles! Nick Grimshaw Makes BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Debut

DJ's first show took place this morning

Nick Grimshaw officially took over from Chris Moyles as he made his live debut as Radio 1's breakfast show host.

Grimshaw was passed on the baton from Moyles at 6.30am on this morning (September 24), opening his first breakfast show with 'Paris' by Jay-Z and Kanye West

''So, this is happening. This is... actually happening," Grimshaw said in his opening link. "Good morning, Great Britain, and welcome to this, a brand new breakfast show on BBC Radio 1. Hi. My name is Nick Grimshaw, good morning everybody."

Grimshaw aired a pre-recorded interview with Justin Bieber that he had done earlier this month at Maida Vale.

During the show, Grimshaw also phoned up his good friend, One Direction's Harry Styles to discuss the band's new single 'Live While We're Young'.

Moyles announced his plans to leave the show last month and will reportedly move to a late evening timeslot when Nick Grimshaw takes over the breakfast show.

Moyles is Radio 1's longest-serving breakfast show DJ having presented the early morning slot since 2004 as well as the station's longest-serving DJ after 15 years at Radio 1.

As he is contracted with BBC station until 2014, Moyles and his radio team will take over a new time slot.
