Phil Daniels who starred in films like Quadrophenia and Scum will be joining the miserable cast of Eastenders.
In a bid to revive flagging ratings producers have signed up Daniels, who incidentally was the voice of Blurs Parklife, to play new character Kevin Wicks.
Executive producer Kate Harwood said: "Phil Daniels is an extraordinary talent. It is a real coup to have him join the show."
"The Wicks family is going to be a force to be reckoned in Walford next year."
Daniels said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge of doing some quality mainstream TV."
"I am very happy to be joining the show especially as my mum is a big fan."
Luckily for Daniels mum, her son wont be playing yet another shitty East end gangster, he will instead play the role of a big hearted family man who ends up in the square trying to locate his son Deano.
Daniels will make his Eastenders debut in early 2006.
