This week Celebrity Big Brother stars Paddy Doherty (My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding) and Sally Bercow visit the Roma gypsies in Hungary. Highlights include snail picking, a pig stew made of fallopian tubes and Paddy’s horrifically nasal singing.
First up the unlikely pair head to the traditional Hungarian village of Alsozenmarton. On arrival at the village they met Rosa and Zolie who collect and sell snails for a living. Sally and Paddy were soon put to work hunting for the slippery suckers. Paddy was a pro and collected a whole bucketful. Sally however got distracted by a snake. Paddy indulged in a bit of playground banter and started chasing Sally with a snail.
After all the fun and games the snails that Paddy and Sally collected were sold for £1 and they learnt that in a good week Rosa and her family might earn the rather pitiful amount of £40 for all their back breaking work.
Their next task in the village was milking a goat. With lots of phallic jokes and Paddy’s protestations that this was "woman’s work" they ended up with the tiniest bit of milk that would be just about enough for a cup of tea. For their milking efforts the pair were invited to an old fashioned knees up, gypsy-style. The party involved dancing and some crazy traditional music.
After their stay in the village the unlikely couple headed to the capital Budapest. Just outside Budapest the duo paid a visit to a stable. Paddy, a huge lover of horses, had a grand old time bonding with the travellers over the fine stallions they were shown. At the stables Paddy also got the chance to realise his childhood dream of riding a cart with two horses, just like his Western heroes.
When they got to Budapest the pair went shopping for outfits to wear whilst waiting on tables at a traditional Roma restaurant. Déjà vu from last week anyone? Cue another round of Sally asking Paddy what he thinks of her outfits and him saying “nice” with an unmoveable poker face! Sally commits a cardinal sin and asks Paddy to wear something other than his customary vests. He chooses on a spectacularly ugly floral shirt.
The pair then visit a restaurant to prepare a meal and offer their services as waiters. But there is a rather unusual dish on the menu tonight - pig’s womb stew. The delightful stew provided viewers and Paddy & Sally with some rather graphic images of fallopian tubes. During waiting on the tables Paddy had a few hiccups telling a couple that red wine made him randy and that the pig fallopian tube stew was in fact mushroom stew. Hopefully there were no vegetarians in that night. Paddy concluded the night’s service with some awful singing to the head chef. To be fair she did request it. Nasal doesn’t even begin to describe it.
They rounded up the episode with a night on the town Roma gypsy style.
Let’s hope the next episode retains the playground banter and that Paddy and Sally remain our favourite married couple that aren’t actually married.
