Move Over Shirley MacLaine! Downton Abbey Set For New Arrival?

Reports have suggested that BGT judge Amanda Holden will be making a cameo appearance

It looks like the cast of Downton Abbey might be welcoming a new cast member following the claims that actress and Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has bagged herself a part in the hit period drama which returned to our screens on Sunday.

It is believed that the star was invited onto the set to watch parts of series three being filmed and it was there that she was reportedly asked by one of the show's producers if she wanted to make a cameo appearance.

According to the Daily Star, the star gladly took on the role of a spectator at a cricket match. We are so going to be looking out for her now!

Speaking of Amanda's cameo appearance, a source revealed:

"She couldn't believe it. This was like Christmas had come early for her but she's been sworn to secrecy about it."

Whilst we'll be looking out for Amanda in upcoming episodes, it appears that Shirley MacLaine who made her debut as Martha Levinson, mother of Lady Grantham in the first episode, was a hit with viewers.

One excited fan tweeted: "Penelope Wilton, Maggie Smith and Shirley MacLaine are easily the best part of Downton Abbey", whilst another added:

"Downton Abbey is literally a flawless show. And I'm absolutely digging Shirley MacLaine bringing some American spice to the show this season."

Happy that the Hollywood icon has joined the show, a fan of the hit ITV show, tweeted:

"Downton Abbey did not disappoint and Shirley MacLaine is a welcome addition to the cast. Looking forward to the next episode."
