The Script’s frontman Danny O’Donoghue may have recently separated himself from the world of music as he took a huge leap into TV as a judge on talent show The Voice, but it seems like his band are set to take the music world by storm once again and this time the guys have been joined by the one and only Will.i.am on latest single ‘Hall Of Fame’. Entertainmentwise caught up with the cute Irishman to find out how they managed to bag a bit of Will’s quality time...
And although you may have put two and two together and figured that it must be fairly easy for Danny, as a fellow The Voice judge, to work with Will.i.am on the guys’ latest single, think again! When we caught up with the frontman, he told us that he STILL gets starstruck by the music giant’s presence and that it wasn’t all as easy as you may think.
So how did the collaboration come about?
“I got him [Will.i.am] in a headlock, but it was a verbal headlock”, Danny told us.
He added, “We were messing around for a little while about him coming in the studio – was he coming down? Was he not coming down? Then we were left with like a day to record the song. Then I asked him what he was doing one day, he said ‘nothing’ so I just said why don’t we just jump in a car and go and do it? So we just went and did it there and then.”
And we always see Twitter snaps of celebs spending hours together hooked up in those studios (ahem – Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, we’re looking at you!), but it seems like this wasn’t the case for these guys...
“It took about an hour or two to do. That last 10% of the track that he jumped on board for made the track for me. The ‘Champion’ part wasn’t in the song when he got it, so that was all him. He sees those holes in songs and he tends to fill them. We just booked the hotel and did the song, we were trying to be cool about it but it’s Will.i.am for God's sake!”
So even after working and collaborating with the world’s biggest stars, Danny STILL gets starstruck. Maybe he is just like you and I after all...
