After making it all the way to judge’s houses last year, Melanie McCabe wasn’t going to let the rejection from Kelly Rowland shatter her dreams of becoming a star. Tonight’s show saw her make a huge comeback and pull it out of the bag on the stage where it mattered most.
As Melanie made her way to the audition, she admitted, “I was so devastated when I didn’t get through. I cried all the way back from Miami”. Instantly winning over the crowd with her innocence and honesty, Melanie said that, “When you’ve got a knock back, it really pushes you and it makes you stronger”.
Opting to sing, ‘Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water’, as soon a she sang the first note, the audience and the judges were gripped. Overwhelmed by her ability to hit every note perfectly, both the judges and the crowd gave the student a standing ovation and a huge round of applause as the song came to an end.
Tulisa told Melanie that her audition was “even better than what I remember from last year. You deserve to be on that stage”. Mel B added, “you’re a little star” and Gary Barlow simply used the word, “extraordinary”.
Welling up, longest serving X Factor judge Louis Walsh told the student, “You’ve done it. I’m emotional because I know you’ve been through a really tough time. I didn’t know you were going to be this good today”.
Unsurprisingly, the singer received four yeses and has made it through to the next round!
