While Kristen Stewart was 2,500 miles away in Toronto, Robert Pattinson spent his night surrounded by his friends and admirers.
The 26-year-old Pattinson was quite the social butterfly at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday in Los Angeles, taking in the moment mingling with the celebrities, including the pint-size Fierce Five.
Even though it’s only been a little over a month since his estranged girlfriend and Twilight costar Kristen Stewart broke his heart, Pattinson is appearing to be coping quite well.
When MTV Live streamed the “Talent Prep Cam” on USTREAM, Pattinson was seen hugging each of the Team U.S.A. Olympic gymnasts members – McKayla Maroney, 16, Kyla Ross, 15, Gabby Douglas, 16, Jordyn Wieber, 17, and Aly Raisman, 18 – before breaking off into a chat with the quintet.
But who could blame them? Pattinson looked quite dapper in an Alexander McQueen bomber jacket, and made the gold-winning athletes smile from ear-to-ear during their encounter.
Following his appearance at the VMAs, where Pattinson premiered a new trailer of Breaking Dawn – Part 2 along with the rest of Twilight cast (minus Stewart), he headed to one of his favorite haunts the Soho House in West Hollywood to enjoy the rest of his night out.
The actor was seen accompanied by his Twilight costar Ashley Green, including other friends as they were tucked away in the most isolated corner, so that Pattinson couldn’t be bothered.
"He was smiling and really enjoying himself, chatting to his friends," an onlooker tells People. "He [seemed] committed to having a night out with close, trusted friends and he didn't break away from the comfort of them."
