If you're a fan of corsets, the Crawleys and all things costume drama related, chances are that since the last series ended you've been counting down the days until Downton Abbey was back on our screens again.
Hugh, who plays the troubled Earl of Grantham, told STV what viewers could expect to see from the show in the Autumn.
"The impact of the First World War in the second series blew the emotions of the house apart. It made for a wave pattern of big emotions here, there and everywhere because of the impact of the outside world. This series, the outside world still impacts on the house, but it's in a much more nuanced way."
The legendary cast is joined by old school luminary Shirley Maclaine, who will play the Earl's mother in law.
Hugh said that she bonded with Maggie Smith, who plays the Countess of Grantham. "Often in the dinner scenes, with me sitting between Maggie and Shirley, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven listening to some of the stories about the people they've worked with... it is a mark of Downton Abbey's international reputation that actors like MacLaine want to appear on the show."
It sounds like Hugh isn't giving much away, so you'll have to tune in if you want to find out what's really going on. Luckily there isn't long to wait - series 3 will start on ITV1 on Sunday September 16 at 9PM.
