Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was hospitalized over the weekend, causing the band to cancel their concert in Italy.

"We're beyond upset,” drummer Tre Cool said in a video posted on the band’s website. "We're as sad as you guys are. Billie is extremely upset about it."

The 40-year-old singer was “rushed to the hospital ... due to illness" Saturday night, added bassist Mike Dirnt in the video.

The reason for his illness wasn’t revealed, but Dirnt assured “doctors didn’t think it’s a good idea” for Armstrong to perform Sunday at their Bologna concert.

But on Monday, Armstrong resurfaced -- without his bandmates -- as he was spotted leaving the Los Angeles International Airport solo, mouthing his voice was completely long gone, according to TMZ.

The American Idiot singer will have a little over two weeks for his throat and vocal cords to recover. Green Day’s next scheduled show is set for Sept. 21 in Las Vegas.

Armstrong performed at Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's private nuptials to Priscilla Chan back in May.
