With the return of James Bond in the new movie 'Skyfall', we're on the edge of our seats with excitement, but was 007 always this exciting and this good?  Well, Daniel Craig himself has blamed Austin Powers for actually ruining it.

The 44-year-old was talking about the iconic franchise with Empire magazine, where he admitted that the spoof series starring Mike Myers made it virtually impossible to include jokes in the 007 movies because it parodied Austin Powers too much.

"Austin Powers f***** it. By the time we did Casino Royale, the Mike Myers spoof had blown every joke apart," he said.

“We were in a situation where you couldn't send things up. It had gone so far post-modern it wasn't funny anymore."

Craig, who will square up to Bond's new nemesis Silva, played by Javier Bardem in the new movie, claims that his favourite part about the movies are not the exotic locations or the beautiful Bond girls, but actually the 'black humour'.

"I think what's always fantastic about the Bond stories - and they have retained it, though they might have lost it for a while - is that there's always a darkness involved, but it's a darkness with a sense of humour," he said.

Judging by these chops, 'Skyfall' certainly doesn't look funny...

"A black humour. It's about danger, but good danger, because you're in the hands of somebody who's saying, 'F*** you' to risk and, 'F*** you' to dying."

'Skyfall' is set to hit cinemas in November - are you excited?
