The Queen surprised us all when she took part in an Olympic Opening Ceremony scene with Daniel Craig before 'parachuting' her way into the London 2012 stadium. Now it's been revealed that there was a fool-proof plan in place if the monarch had refused her starring role, and it involved Dame Helen Mirren!
According to the Olympics Head of Ceremonies Martin Green, the team had to have a back-up plan in case her majesty said no to the daring sequence. And who better to play the Queen if you can't get the real life monarch, Helen Mirren of course.
Dame Helen, who played Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' 2006 film 'The Queen', was pencilled in as a stand-in should things not go to plan. Green told The People:
"There were conversations about where we would take it if the Queen said no.We did talk about Helen at one point - but we didn't have to go to any other plan."
As Martin says luckily the Queen was more than willing to star alongside Daniel Craig's James Bond in what was the crowning moment of Danny Boyles' opening ceremony. Check out her acting skills below!
