It was a denial of a rumour that most had never heard, restricted to Twitter prattle and the odd whisper on the gossip vine until today, but then Katherine Jenkins told the world that she had not had an affair with David Beckham.
The Dancing With The Stars celeb wrote: "Dear Twitter friends, I've read some horrible rumours on here & want u 2 know I absolutely deny I've had an affair with David Beckham... The rumours are very hurtful, untrue & my lawyers tell me actionable"
Unsurprisingly the social network has been a little cruel to Jenkins, mocking her denials as only Twitter can, and despite often feeling the pain of gossip themselves celebs were joining in heartily.
Lily Cooper (nee Allen) began denying that she'd had an affair with Beyonce's husband Jay-Z, mimicking Jenkins' words by writing: "I'm really upset at the hurtful rumours going tound about me having an affair with Jay Z. My lawyers tell me they are actionable."
She added, parodying Jenkins other tweet that said she'd only met Becks twice, "I've met him twice, once at the spotted pig in New York and once at the wireless festival. We have never been alone together etc etc".
Outspoken comic Frankie Boyle was predictably risque, writing: "Katherine Jenkins didn't notice she was having an affair with David Beckham because he kept bending it in from an impossible angle."
Comedienne Katy Brand wrote: "Dear Friends, I would like to take this opportunity to deny the hurtful rumour that I have ever had an affair with Katherine Jenkins".
So what do you think readers? Cruel or extremely funny?
Entertainmentwise would like to clarify that we deny having an affair with anyone mentioned in this article.
